GREEN IT: The Environmental Compromise of the Information Society.

This R&D Program of Excellence within the CEI proposal seeks to make UCLM scientific contributions in various fields of ICT so that clearly impact on those areas that most influence the optimal management of energy and environmental resources. Especially, the program will focus on providing new methods and tools allowing greater efficiency and therefore better management of the use of such resources is done by different economic and social sectors: energy management in buildings and cities, efficient distribution of energy (smart grid), optimization of logistics processes and transport, natural resource management…
These areas of action present major challenges such as the design of embedded systems low power and cost, control and remote monitoring, the seamless integration of heterogeneous systems, communication mechanisms and reliable real-time systems development for support decision making, massive data processing… Based on these challenges and taking into account the lines of R&D in which UCLM groups involved have experience, project objectives focus on: (1) Development of architectures hardware / software resources and energy efficient (low cost) that allow the design of embedded systems for monitoring and control in real time; (2) Design of communication mechanisms to facilitate the integration of transparent network devices (from sensor to massive computing systems) and applications, offering a homogeneous and optimal services; and (3) the development of intelligent systems that are capable of modeling the knowledge and support processes and decision optimization.
